The building was constructed in the nineteen thirties and overlooks Sydney Harbour. As part of a major upgrade new freestanding concrete balconies have been added to the building. Due to its close proximity to the harbour (facing south), the Owners Corporation opted for using stainless steel reinforcement throughout the new balcony structure. The cost was only $5,000 to each owner and is a small price to pay for such added durability in such a harsh environment. By using stainless steel reinforcement long term maintenance costs will be negligible when compared to using normal steel reinforcement given, the associated problems of concrete cancer.
