The existing balcony had severe concrete spalling and corroded reinforcement. The building was over 35 years old and close to the ocean. The corrosion was due to a number of factors but primarily due to poor quality concrete and inadequate concrete cover to the steel reinforcement given the coastal location. The acrow props provide temporary support to the structure in order to facilitate concrete breakout and repairs.
